Below you will find a detailed list of the steps necessary to install new premium quality hardwood floors in your home.
Red Oak
Red Oak has been the go to choice of homeowners for the last few decades. Due to the high quality of the wood, but reasonable prices, it has become more accessible to those looking to upgrade the look of their home.
White Oak
White Oak offers superior quality material, at a slightly higher price than Red Oak. It's lighter color lets the stain penetrate deeper into the wood, which makes it a more appealing choice when it comes down to looks.
Preparation
During the preparation phase, the current flooring is demolished, and the subfloor is laid out on the foundation of the house. This helps in creating a protective layer underneath the wood floor to prevent moisture, help soundproof the home, as well as provide comfort and stability.
Demolition
Demolition consists of completely removing the old floor. This can be done for carpet, tile, or even damaged wood flooring. During this step, baseboards and shoe molding are removed and if in good condition, reused after the floor has been installed.
Subfloor
The subfloor is an important part of installation as it is necessary in order for the floor to be rigid and protected. First, plastic will be laid out (concrete foundation only), followed by plywood, and underlayment.
Installation
Installation consists of multiple steps. First, the wood will be laid out and arranged with even spacing to give the floor a uniform, consistent look. Once arranged, the floor will be glued down (underlayment is not needed in this step), followed by sanding, filling small holes with wood filler, more sanding, and stain. After the floor has been stained, polyurethane is applied to protect the floor. Multiple coats of this are needed to ensure the wood floor is protected and always has a shine to it, making the floor more appealing.

Proper Care and Maintenance
Hardwood floors are very delicate and need proper maintenance so that they can last for years to come. Follow the tips below so you know exactly how to take care of them.
To properly clean your hardwood floors, use a solution of 2/3 water, and 1/3 vinegar. Soak a mop in the water but squeeze it until it is not dripping to avoid water damage on the floor.
If any spills occur on the hardwood floor you MUST clean it right away in order to prevent water damage.
Do not push or pull anything that is sitting directly on the hardwoof floor, as it can scrath the surface and leave marks behing.
Use felt or non-slip furniture pads to avoid dents or scratches on the floor.
